Jakarta - The Republic of Fiji here Wednesday officially opened an embassy with a ceremony attended by Fijian Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and Indonesian Foreign Affairs Ministry Marty Natalegawa.
"Indonesia and Fiji have had good relations during the past years. The opening of a Fiji Embassy in Jakarta marks a new era in the diplomatic relation between the two countries," Marty said in his speech on the occasion,
The minister said there were potential sectors that Indonesia and Fiji could work on, namely agriculture, fisheries and tourism.
"Indonesia is also ready to share ideas and experience with Fiji regarding democratic processes in our country," said the minister.
Meanwhile, Fijian Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama expressed hope that, with the establishment of a Fiji Embassy in Jakarta, both countries could boost bilateral relation in the future.
He also said Fiji would like to learn about the election process in Indonesia since the first is scheduled to have general election in 2014.
Fiji`s Ambassador to Indonesia is Ratu Cavuilati Tuinausori. Indonesia have since 2002 opened embassy in Fiji`s capital city Suva.
